Supporting imID in preparing for
Trust Service Provider operations under eIDAS

The cooperation between Obserwatorium.biz and imID started in December 2024 as a result of a referral and the prior recognition of Obserwatorium.biz in the European market. The objective of the cooperation was to comprehensively acquire knowledge about the global trust services market, European regulations, and to design a structured pathway toward compliance audit under eIDAS and applicable technical standards.

Background of imID

imID is Armenia’s digital trust service provider, building secure, seamless, and human-centric identity solutions. Backed by leading banks and telecoms, imID serves as a platform that unites industries, empowers citizens, and drives digital transformation.

imID has been on the market for over 12 months, with the goal of providing citizens and businesses in Armenia with electronic identification solutions and trust services. imiD’s mission is simple: make trust digital, accessible, and effortless – for everyone.

Challenges

One of the primary challenges was building foundational awareness of the trust services ecosystem for a completely new company with no prior exposure to regulated digital trust markets. The project environment was high domain complexity, involving multiple interdependent layers – legal, technical, organizational, and regulatory. The interconnected nature of these domains created a steep learning curve and required integrated, cross-disciplinary understanding rather than siloed expertise.

These challenges were addressed through a model of ongoing expert support, combined with continuous access to the Obserwatorium experts. Knowledge transfer was adaptive, and responsive to real-time needs rather than limited to predefined sessions. Equally important was the relational dimension of the cooperation – characterized by openness and trust, which created a safe environment for learning, asking questions, and accelerating understanding despite the complexity of the domain.

Areas of collaboration within the project

  • Knowledge transfer through workshops and continuous communication
  • Enabling informed strategic decision-making through business and regulatory analyses
  • Development of comprehensive documentation frameworks
  • Initiation of a governance model for operating as a Trust Service Provider including designing and structuring of security and operational processes
  • Definition of trusted roles and their responsibilities
  • Training programs for trusted roles
  • Preparation for CAB (Conformity Assessment Body) audit

Results & business outcomes

imID is now firmly on a structured path toward becoming a Trust Service Provider in alignment with the eIDAS regulation and the associated ETSI standards. A comprehensive governance and operating model has been established, supported by a set of documentation, policies, and procedures embedded within formal security processes.

This framework is now approaching its first independent verification phase and will soon be assessed by an external Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) accredited in the EU, marking a critical milestone in imID’s regulatory and compliance journey.

“It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to contribute to the creation of a completely new trust services initiative and to co-build its foundations from the ground up. The level of commitment, openness, and professionalism demonstrated by imID and all stakeholders involved in this project has been exceptional. What distinguishes this cooperation is not only the technical and regulatory progress achieved, but also the maturity of the organizational approach to governance, security, and compliance. We are confident that imID is strongly prepared for the challenges ahead –  beginning with certification and continuing through the next stages of its development as a fully operational Trust Service Provider” – said Marcin Wolski, expert Obserwatorium.biz

Why does imID recommend working with Obserwatorium.biz?

Our partnership with Obserwatorium.biz started with an announcement, but quickly turned into real, intensive work. Last year, we have announced our partnership and then the work started right after. 300 hours of different meetings, 60 plus workshops and stand-ups, 13 policies, including our practice statements and many, many other policies, which translates to 250 pages of documentation processes that we have embedded into our daily life. Sleepless nights, lengthy discussions and one awesome partnership – said Karen Mkoyan, CEO of the imID at the Trusted Economy Forum 2025 edition, in Warsaw.

Armenia’s digital transformation agenda is firmly oriented towards international standards and cross-border interoperability. As the country advances its regulatory and digital infrastructure, alignment with the European Union’s eIDAS framework represents not merely a compliance exercise, but a strategic commitment – to raising the bar for digital trust and the security of online transactions. imID sits at the heart of this ambition: as Armenia’s first trust service provider, we are building the foundations of a digital trust ecosystem that is secure, inclusive, and recognized beyond our borders.

Within this context, our collaboration with Obserwatorium was instrumental, as they helped us build not just documentation, but a culture of compliance – one that is now embedded in our daily operations, our governance model, and the way our teams think about security and trust.

When we embarked on this journey, we were a newly established company stepping into one of the most complex regulatory environments in the digital world. Obserwatorium.biz didn’t just bring expertise; they brought structure, patience, and a genuine commitment to our success.

What set this partnership apart was the way knowledge was transferred – not through rigid, predefined modules, but through continuous, real-time engagement calibrated to our evolving understanding. As our grasp of the regulatory landscape deepened, so did the complexity and ambition of the work we tackled together. Every question was welcomed; every challenge was worked jointly, and the depth of guidance we received went far beyond what a traditional consultancy relationship would offer.

For any organization – particularly one operating outside the EU – seeking to navigate the trust services landscape and achieve eIDAS alignment, Obserwatorium.biz stands in a league of its own. Their combination of regulatory depth, technical rigor, and genuine investment in their clients’ outcomes is rare. If you are serious about getting this right, they are the best positioned to take you there.
